MAY 2010

Rammy has disappeared!

My beautiful longhaired tabby cat, Rammy, who has been with me for 15 years, ate his dinner on Wednesday 28 April, walked out and I never saw him again. They do say that old cats often wander off to die alone. I have searched everywhere and asked all my neighbours but the last sighting was around 8.30pm that evening.

This is the last photo I ever took of Rammy.

SPRING 2010

I have just come back from a visit to the exciting and colourful country of Cuba. The weather was great and I loved the friendly people, old Spanish colonial architecture and old American cars!

AUTUMN AND WINTER 2009

I have decided to make DVDs available of some of the great railway journeys featured in my book SINGLE TRACK OBSESSION. Please see the DVDs Page for details!

Not so much travelling apart from a short break to France where I revisited Paris and also saw two amazing viaducts - the 19th-century Viaduc de Garabit and the 21st-century Viaduc de Millau!

SUMMER 2009

My main trip of the year was to Central America - visiting Guatemala, Belize and Honduras, and also briefly touching down in El Salvador. It was a wonderful trip and I really loved Honduras but sadly there was a coup just after I got back home and currently the UK Foreign Office is advising against further travel there!

FEBRUARY 2009

I enjoyed a fantastic holiday in South Africa, visiting the Kruger National Park and seeing lots of animals - but no leopards! I also paid a short visit to Swaziland, where I spent St Valentine's Day!

DECEMBER 2008

I have had two long weekends abroad - to Portugal and to Paris. I stayed with a friend in Northern Portugal and visited Guimarães and Oporto.
For more photos of Portugal please click HERE!

A week later I stayed with another friend in Paris and revisited the Louvre and many other sights. The Christmas decorations in Guimarães (above right) put those in Paris to shame!

NOVEMBER 2008

I went on an enjoyable long weekend trip to Iceland, staying in Reykjavik. It snowed most of the time! I visited Gullfoss Waterfall, the geyser area on the "Golden Circle", Thingvellier National Park and of course I had a dip in the Blue Lagoon!

JULY 2008

In early July I went on a short but fascinating trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. The wildlife is stunning! Here I am with a giant tortoise and a blue-footed booby!

A Coach Load of Chaos is NOW available from the publishers! For details please see the 'Books' page.

I have just spent a weekend (21 - 22 June) in the French city of Bordeaux, which was an eye-opening experience as it was so much more beautiful and interesting than I remembered from my last visit a few years ago. Here are a few photos of the city:

I attended the Irish Dolphins Conference in Dingle from 12 to 14 May. It was fantastic to meet so many people from all over the world with an interest in dolphins. I saw Fungie, the famous Dingle dolphin, and three other bottlenose dolphins swimming together - a wonderful sight! Details are available on:http://www.irishdolphins.com/conference/

Fungie the Dingle dolphin jumping!

On Saturday March 15 I travelled up from Kent to London in a vintage bus and handed out leaflets and balloons to publicise the annual DAY OF THE TOURIST GUIDE. Here is a photo of the vintage London RT bus I travelled on. I was wearing period conductor's uniform!
